Naughty or Nice?
This time of year, there’s a lot of talk about being naughty or nice. What does that mean to you, as a leader? When you reflect on 2015, make it about more than just whether or not your store hit its goals. Instead, think about how you performed as a brand advocate for your business. To evaluate your branding performance, take a step back and look at your store from the customer’s point of view. You and your employees should always be portraying an image consistent with the high standards of your brand.
While you’re looking at things from a different perspective, also take a look at yourself as your employees see you. Make sure that, even during this stressful time of year, you’re taking the time to coach, motivate, and praise each member of your staff. Your employees will put out what you pour into them. As you’re making your list and checking it twice for 2016, take the time you need to critique both your business and yourself.
Module of the Month: Critiquing Your Store
Achieving operational excellence takes hard work, team effort, and attention to detail. In this module, managers learn to walk the store regularly and pay attention to details, constantly looking for ways to improve.
Managers properly trained to critique their stores have the opportunity to improve employee morale and create an efficient operation.
Contact your Account Manager to have this module added to your training network and find out more about our specialist and management training series.

Do you ever look at something going on in your operation and decide that, whatever it is, it’s “good enough?” As any successful store manager will tell you, “good enough” never is. You have to set the bar higher, both for your big picture goals and for the details of your day-to-day operation. It’s often the fine brush strokes, after all, that distinguish a work of art from what’s hanging in run-of-the-mill motels. The same principle holds true in business and c-store management.
“Without continual growth and progress, such words as improvement, achievement, and success have no meaning.” -Benjamin Franklin
